Questioning
Student is able to formulate open ended, inquiry style questions that can be used for further exploration.
Student is not yet able to formulate questions that are open ended. Questions may be simple and easily answered with only a small amount of information.
Student is able to formulate some questions that are open ended but often do not inspire further exploration.
Student consistently formulates open-ended inquiry style questions that they can then use to inspire further exploration.
Student consistently seeks to formulate questions that are beyond expectations of their grade level. Questions are a reflection of deep, critical thought.
Research
Student is able to apply effective research methods including keyword searches, source evaluation and information translation when answering their Inquiry question.
Student is not yet able to apply effective research methods to answering their Inquiry questions.
Student is able to apply effective research methods some of the time but may have trouble generating key words related to question and/ or making effective notes and/or translating information into their own words.
Student is consistently able to apply effective research methods including generating key words related to question and/ or making effective notes and/or translating information into their own words.
Student is able to consistently research without assistance, interpret information, evaluate sources and apply their knowledge to their Inquiry question.
Problem Solving
Student is able to independently problem solve issues and perseveres until successful.
Student is not yet able to independently problem solve issues without the assistance of a teacher.
Student attempts to independently problem solve but tend to look to others for answers or gives up easily.
Student is usually able to problem solve independently and only seeks assistance after multiple attempts to achieve success on their own.
Student is consistently able to problem solve independently and often assists others to solve their Inquiry problems.
Presentation of Knowledge
Student presents knowledge in a critical and creative manner that is educational to the audience.
Student is not yet able to use critical and creative thinking to present their acquired knowledge. Presentations may simple and/or incomplete.
Student is able to use some critical and creative thinking when planning methods of presenting their knowledge but may have difficulty thinking beyond traditional methods.
Student is able to use some critical and creative thinking when planning methods of presenting their knowledge and usually thinks beyond traditional methods for presenting.
Student consistently goes beyond expectations and strives to select presentation methods that are innovative, interesting and educational.
